I've just bagged a new job with good prospects and opportunities to progress. Does anyone have any tips on how to make it to the top? I am a hard worker and a quick learner but is that enough?

You will do great!! You have a good attidude, and a good work ethic. Don't be pushy, keep your ears open, ask questions, when you are not sure about something, be pleasant to your co-workers, don't suck up to the boss, she will know what you are trying to do, and it will not help you at all. Don't take much time off, only when absolutely necessary, be on time, if you cannot finish a job in your regular hours, just stay until your work is finished. Your boss will recognise your dedication, but don't expect to get to the top to quickly, have patience, you will be rewarded for your dedication to the company. Good Luck in your career..

The formula is simple: Preparation, Execution, Follow Through

Prepare yourself for the job, assignment at hand. Do your research. Study and obeserve the situation. Make a good plan and alternative strategies. (Plan B, Plan C, etc.)

Do the job. Do it right. Do it thoroughly. Check each step before and after you do it. Check the whole job when you are done.

Go back and see the results of your work. Did it do what was intended? Do you need to go back and make adjustments? Do over? Anything you can do to help it along the next step? Anticipate the next job/assinment coming along.

All of these things should help your boss's job. (and HIS boss, and His boss, etc) Anything that advances your boss, advances you.

Don't cheat. Don't lie. Don't cover up. Be a team player, but be the BEST on that team. Anything that advances the team, advances you.

you're a hard worker and quick learner, those are good points.. all you need to do is to learn to deal with your co-employees, be friendly, try to help everyone when needed..(i said when needed because I wouldn't help those who doesn't work good, you know! I tried to help a co-worker but she was just standing and looking at me,so i did what is supposed to be her job, that was the last, never!) Just continue doing your work well, no call-in as much as possible so others won't be affected, just respect everyone so they give it back to you and they will support you also.

You can set your sights on the top, but don't make it your obsession to get there. Passion, yes.

If you do the common things uncommonly well, you will get there.

Never cause a fight or a fuss over minor issues if you can help it.

People are more willing to help you along if your not a firebrand.
