Is it a very close sort of dance or is it more of a stand apart one? Thanks

It is pretty close contact dance, not "stand apart". Even though your bodies are not pressed against each other as one might be thinking, the distance is very short and since it's dymanic dance, sometimes you touch. It is pretty much like hugging, same kind of deal. I would say that people who compare it with sex have quite vivid imagination. I don't think it's *that* close. It gives the impression of being very close and intimate because good dancers move very much in synch with each other.

I have a best friend who is Argentine and his family hosts a tango every other week. I've gone a few times and tried to dance. It was not at all the tango you usually see in movies. It was much more similar to any other type of classical partner dance. One hand on shoulders or back, other in hand of partner. The girl leans in with her head looking over the man's shoulder basically. There is chest to chest contact, but I don't see much else. I watched my friend dance with his mother, so the sexual nature of the dance is not to be seen there. It was not an awkward dance to do with strangers. I don't see anything sexual about what I have watched.

I thought this was a humorous type of question, so my
answer tried to be humorous. But maybe some people
really dont know what Tango is like. It is very serious and
strenuous (similar to the French "apache" dance), and in-
volves twisting and turning between a male and a female
dancer, who are going to make love, or who are actually
making love before our eyes.
