ok. so, i had a mains halogen light on the ceiling of my bedroom. it stopped workng. i tried different bulbs, still didnt work.
got a new light, had a few probs fitting it (sorted now) and it still doesnt work. so, the fault has to be somewhere else. all the other mains lights work in the house.

this is not something i will be trying to sort out on my own, i am simply interested in what the problem may be. thanks.

I am sure that the problem is in the wiring.. a loose connection and/or a wire has burned off.. You are dealing with halogen and that means a VERY HOT atmosphere .. so you might have to take the fixture off and check the wiring.... by the way.. a) NO wire should be exposed, and/or close to a halogen bulb; b) You should NEVER NEVER use your bare fingers to putin a new bulb.. always use a towel or paper towel to put in a new bulb.. The oil from your fingers will cause the bulb to burn out in no time.)

Was the halogen light running off a transformer specific for that light. If so you will need to remove the transformer and rewire for standard mains operation. Standard light bulbs won't run on 12v DC.

from what u were saying before it sounds that the light is at the end of the radial circuit. therefore there might be a loose wire (red) at the fitting before that (different room).that would stop the continuity in the phase (red) therefore no power to the next fitting but everything else would work.

Take it aside and verify the flint. despite if it is not there, placed yet another in. despite if it rather is there, turn it around to modern-day a distinctive spectacular floor. verify the spring that pushes the flint up. Is it too loose or too tight. despite if it is not there, you will could the two purchase a sparkling spring or a sparkling zippo. just to be on the risk-free area, installation a sparkling flint. you should purchase new flints at Walgreen or a pipe keep.

Sounds like a bad switch? If other outlets work, then may be a faulty light switch. Have competent person check for voltage at switch (before and after). Go from there....good luck.

It's just a loose wire either in the switch or the light fitting..it's easy to check. Just turn the elecric off at the mains and unscrew fittings you will see instantly a loose wire..Just pop it back in!!

There is a possibility that you have moved the light socket sufficiently to have a wire dislodge itself. Get electrician to check first.

Use a multimeter to check for power at the light, keep following it back if you don't get power there until you find where you do have power.
