Animals sent into space are rated on an intelligence scale. There is a cut-off point on the scale where any animal below that point is not eligible to be sent into space. Monkeys, rats and mice are actually high enough on the scale to go. If it was practical, porpoise and elephants could go as they exhibit some of the highest inate intelligence in the animal kingdom. You on the other hand would probably fall onto the scale somewhere between a clam and a pet rock.

They are only testing if human beings can survive the harsh conditions of space. Since monkeys are our closest relative from the roots of Australopithecus, they believe that If mionkeys can survive space, why can't human. So Overall, they are just having an experement. Poor Monkeys
