well.....you can complain but how do you prove you mailed something??? Also, not to be snarky but can you be sure those who "didn't get the invitation" aren't just using it as an excuse for not having the courtesy to RSVP ?

Hi! I'm a window clerk with the USPS, and I can explain the complaint process, but it probably won't help you find your letters. To lodge a complaint, you could talk to the Station Mgr. or Supv. at the local delivery office for yout delivery zip zone. Likely, they will listen and try to explain the process of transporting and delivering mail, but there's not much any one person can do to find individual letters, no matter how high up they are. It's like looking for a dandruff flake in a 5 lb. bag of flour.
However, to file an official complaint call 1(800)ASK-USPS. This is the only channel for complaints. A form for complaints was eliminated years ago. At a retail counter they may offer you a form PS1510, Report of a Missing Piece of Mail. This is simply a notice to Postal Inspectors that something is missing. It is placed in a nationwide database to show suspicious nexus (points) where investigations of stolen mail might be appropriate. Sometimes damaged pieces are recovered at Mail Recovery Centers (what used to be called Dead Letter Offices)and returned to their owners by this process, but it is rare and not what the form was intended.
A complaint via ASK-USPS will generate a hard-copy to the local Postmaster which is required to be followed-up. Usually this gets someone's attention because nobody wants the Postmaster breathing down their necks. If something can be done, they'll do it to make the Postmaster go away.
I wish it were better, but that's what we have to work with. And believe me, not all of are uncaring SOB's. I know I want to serve my customers in any way I can, but we're not always given the tools necessary to please everyone. Good Luck

First things first, Congratulations!
I suspect the problem may be that the computer misread the invites because of the printing and misbarcoded them, which will cause a delay. Also if the invites were other than standard size the machine may have rejected them completely leading to a need for human intervention. I surmise this only as conjecture having delivered many thousands of similar items over the years.
You can contact National USPS at USPS.com via the "Contact us" link in small letters at the very bottom of the page.

Get on the phone and call your local post office and ask to speak to the postmaster or person in charge. If that many disappeared, the failure HAS TO BE at the local level. Stay calm, and talk respectfully and rationally. But give him to know the problem in full detail. It may take the top dog getting on some underlings' butts to get these invites to magically show up out of the blue again.
Best of luck to you!

The truth...If complaining without satisfaction will make you feel better, try the link below. Honestly, the only time you can get any sort of service out of the PO is if you spent a lot of money on their services [e.g., delivery confirmation & insurance]. As precious as your invitations may be to you, to the PO they are seen as lost envelopes, nothing more, and how do they find them. Right, they don't. You may get lucky and find someone with a bit of sympathy, but the best hope for those invitations is to resend if you can.

unfortunately there's not much you can do.
believe me i've tried with much more depremental issues. (one of the reasons why i filed for bankruptcy) i was even declared dead!
i tried to talk to the post master... the post master at another post office which gets the mail from the post office in my city... then i tried to talk to the post master at the district offices which get mail from all the post offices in the region...
nothing... all i got was a dam run around...
all my bills... forms... regular mail gone.. trashed.. shredded... declared it was going to a dead resident.. so on...
i wasn't the only one this was city wide, county wide.. several counties... no one cared.
mail was being stolen... checks shredded... insurance forms trashed... all kinds of packages and other things returned to the senders with no explaination or false explainations.
and we all had to find out the hard way.
we even petitioned... nothing.
it is like they don't give a dam.
so over this mild manner.. good luck.
try starting at the bottom.. talking to one of the clerks.. then going up from there.
best thing is to.. talk to them THEN resend the 5 that didn't get sent, or were recieved.
sorry... i wish you the best of luck.
in the most dire of cases... including myself... i even tried to contact the postal inspectors... NOTHING!
just a form going on about quality of service.
oh and guess what? our post office got 5 stars...
WHAT!
sorry this was a rant but also you can try to follow the steps i did...
i hope with better results..
going to the www.usps.com site will end up making you angry... go to the post office personally and ask.. find out where else you can go to... find out where the mail goes from that office to the next then... so on.
then if that don't work.. talk to the post master... if they're not out golfing.. or on vacation.. lunch.. with a maiden.. whatever.
then if that don't work... ??? see if anyone else has had issues with the post office and talk with them.
if this persists.. well.. best thing you can do is talk to the district offices... find out where they are.. then call them.. i'm sure though they'll give you the run around also.
:(

I understand the concern but think you might be wasting your time. The mail might have been stolen after reaching the USPS destination or the intended recipients might have had some other difficulty at their own household. Perhaps just relax and resend those 5 and see what happens?

Which post office did you send them from? Depending on your answer, I have some great contacts for you...

i don;t know how to complain, but i really don;t think it will do any good, I might just write a letter to the post office you went thru and hand deliver it to the big guy, or at least a supervisor.
