Should the doctor suspect vaginitis a pap smear would not be done but he would do a test for bacteria. A Pap smear looks at cervical cells under a microscope to determine if any precancerous changes have occurred or if there are cancerous cells present so that test is not what you would have.

Pap smears are for cancer not infection. You can tell you have it but not what kind or how to treat it without that knowledge of taking swabs and mounts and cultures.

If you've never been diagnosed, you need to go to a doctor. It can be confused with a yeast infection if you dont know what it feels like for sure. Also, you have to get Rx meds anyway to clear it up. I've had it before and just told the Dr I had it and got an Rx because I had been diagnosed once before that.

No, only your gyno can tell if there are white blood cells present, and then prescribe a treatment to cure it (bacterial vaginitis can spread up the vaginal tract and cause sterility, so don't wait.)

Not always, sometimes you don't have symptoms when you have vaginitis. It's best to visit the gyn. It's easy to clear up. But can have complications done the line if left untreated.
