Perhaps it's media hype but heterosexual males often seem to have a preference for very young, petite women.
Would it stand to reason the homosexual males would prefer young men?
This certainly must be horrifying to Republican leadership.

It's horrifying to Republican leadership because it is so off-topic. This is an aberration and while there are any number of topics to be debated, Mark Foley's inappropriate behavior or the Republican leaderships' failure to act a year ago, means nobody is talking about the big issues.

Its not just a legal term. Normal sexual desires are for fully grown and developed people. When you have sexual desires towards people who aren't full developed physically, then you're a pedophile. Its a sexual preference, like hetersexuality or homosexuality. Its not a mental disorder and its not "curable"
Sexual crimes against children need to be punished by a "one strike and you're out" policy for this reason.
Sexual attraction to 16-17 year olds is borderline. He may be a pedophile, he may not be. He might just be kinky. Either way though, you have to question the ethics of someone his age and in his position who feels the need to solicit sex from 16 year olds.
Spirit, like most Cons, seems to have his facts wrong. There is not a link between homosexuality and pedophilia. Some pedophiles perfer boys, but most perfer girls. And democrats do not now, nor have they EVER supported such activity. Stop slandering Liberals with your BS, you know its not true. Gay rights has nothing to do with child sexual abuse! Any attempt to connect them is just homophobia.

I doubt Foley is a pedophile in the classic sense.
Although the boy in question was what, 16(?), it wasn't as if Foley was diddling 10 year olds.
Several states consider 16 of legal consent for sex, including the District of Columbia.
I suppose most men would prefer younger partners, but not little children.
Foley is no different, he just prefers boys to girls.
While I find that disgusting, I'm even more incensed over the fact that someone in power would abuse that power over a subordinate...and especially in the nations capitol...and I assume it was done on government computers (i.e., at taxpayers expense).
What Foley does on his own time, in his own home is his business.
What he does on OUR time, is OUR business.
The other part of the story is that the Republican party, unlike the Democrat party, paints itself as a virtue of high moral standards.
What we have here is sheer hypocrisy.

Pedophile means having sexual relations with under age children. Why it should be horrifying to Republican leadership, gets by me, though.
So far as this Foley thing goes, it should reflect on the Republicans if it could be shown that it was a policy of the party to hide it, otherwise, it's something that involved a couple of people who happened to be Republicans.
If a red head murdered a group of people, should that be horrifying to red head people?

Pedophilia is both a psychological and legal term. It's original meaning was, "lover of boys" (Greek). Although they deny it, the vast majority of sodomite males will seek out young boys. Since homosexuality is present from birth (defect in brain chemistry), young, queer males are easy targets for older sods. It should be horrifying to all, but the Demorats have pushed "gay rights" for so long, it is nothing new to them.

He is what psychologists would term ephebophile, one who is sexually attracted to people going through puberty. A pedophile is one who is sexually attracted to children who have not yet reached puberty.
Legally, it is someone who acts on their sexual attraction for someone below the age of consent, which varies somewhat by state.
I am dyed in the wool Democrat, but I also think that if this happened to a Democrat in Congress, they would be circling the wagons just the same. The two party confrontational system that has evolved is, I feel certain, is not what the founders of this country had in mind. It is a problem of the selection of people who are attracted to public office, often have motives the rest of us cannot fathom or even imagine.

The answer is: both. Either way, its despicable. And to those who say the Democrats support it because they might support gay rights I say this: Gay rights? Sure, why not - it doesn't affect me as I am not gay. Pedophile's rights? That's a whole different matter - a resounding NOT ON YOUR LIFE. Pedophilia is a medical term for the sexual attraction to children and it's not limited to "teenagers". Regardless of Foley's orientation he and other self hating scum like him are not excused for the harm they inflict on children.
