spend $2000 at the vet, if your animal wasn't dying but needed an expensive surgery for you to be able to keep him. He was only 7 when we did it...now I'm about to pay the final payment and I'm thinking I won't do that again. would you?

Was it worth it to you to be able to keep the animal? What was the surgery? I guess you have the weigh the outcome, you've got 2000 less in your bank account, but you held on to your animal because of it.

No. I hate to say it. My beloved basset was 5 years old and got a ruptured disc. She couldn't even walk, just drag her back legs. The operation would have been $3000 and we'd have to hold her up to pee. And there was no guarantee she'd ever walk, but she'd live. But that was no quality of life.
I had to make the decision to put her down. We had her cremated and bought her a little urn.
I used to have a diabetic cat who needed me to give him shots twice a day. I did that until the very end. Then you have to make that terrible decision.
Good wishes in the future.

if I could afford it I definitely would. I have two dogs and they're the sweetest things and I couldnt keep one and not the other cus they're best friends! $2000 is a lot of money though but I'm sure it was worth it.

Nope. I would give him away and go get another healthy pet. That money could potentially cover all the costs, including feeding, of the new pet for it's entire life, depending on the pet.

Yep, I sure would. Our cat is 18 years old now and in good shape. We had to put him through surgery about 6 years ago.

YES YES YES & YES AGAIN. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF SOMEONE COULD JUST PUT YOU TO SLEEP WHEN YOU COULDN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR SOMETHING CRITICAL LIKE A SURGERY? NO, ANIMALS AREN'T PEOPLE, BUT THEY ARE ALIVE & FEEL & ALL THAT STUFF.....MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHEN YOU GET AN ANIMAL YOU SHOULD TAKE THESE THINGS INTO CONSIDERATION. IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE ON THE RESPONSIBILITY....WHICH INCLUDES THINGS LIKE THIS....THEN YOU SHOULDN'T GET A PET.

Yes I would probably spend even more than that.
I love my dog and if something was wrong with her then I would do everything that I could to help her.
