I just bought some pre-natal vitamins that contain 800 mcg's of Folic Acid. Is that too much for a woman to take before becoming pregnant? I saw somewhere that women takin pre-natals before becoming pregnant should only take 400 mcg's. Is taking 800 mcg's too much?

Can I also add that there is a slight chance that I am pregnant.

800 is fine. I believe that is how much most prenatals have in them. You'll just pee out what you don't need.

Congrats if you are pregnant!!!

I talked to my doctor yesterday about pre-natal vitamins. He said that any of the OTC ones should be fine and will not hurt a pregnant woman, a non-pregnant woman or even a man.

Good luck!

Ive heard from my doctor that folic acid is very good for you. I dont know about having to much. You may want to ask your doctor to be sure but I think any prenatal vitamin is ok.

Be careful..... Some of them have to much of one and not enough of another...
I am not sure if that is too much or not...
But yes it is normal to take pre-nats before getting pregnant, it is alot better than not!
GOOD LUCK!

It should be fine. I don't think that they can be called prenatal vitamins if they would cause harm to a baby!
I think thats what mine has!

Whatever is in that vitamin that you don't need your body will excrete out that's why your urine will be bright yellow. Good luck if you are.
