I believe you language is set to USA follow below to change to UK
key board layout
control panel
regional and language (globe icon)
change top address bar to English UK
bottom to United Kingdom
click 3 rd tab (advanced)
change address bar to English
tick bottom box (apply all setting to the currant user account and to the default user profile)

Your keyboard may be set to US rather than UK (or vice versa). Go to Start Menu - Settings - Control Panel - Keyboard - Input Language and try adding or changing language.

Then change the top drop down menu to your own country.

Try holding the left alt key and shift. Release then try again in whatever program you are working in. This switches between English UK and English US. Just tried it and it worked for me!!

Its to do with your keyboard settings, maybe language settings. Mine does it too sometimes usually after reformatting, cant for the life of me remember how to change it but it is possible

Look in the keyboard settings and make sure it is set to use an English (QWERT) keyboard.

on my keyboard i just press the @ button and the ' appears, i need to hold shift down to make a @ sign

I hate to break the news, but it looks like you need a new keyboard. You might try to reboot your system first. That could very well fix the problem.

Sounds like you switched symbols between keys. Just switch them back.
