Motorola because they do have latest features that allow internet to run faster and more compresses for excellent download speed. Motorola are chosen by Comcast for best brand cable modem.
SBCDSL modem is ok but sometimes you have to restart the modem.

I have excellent experience with the Motorola modems.
Presently I use a SB-5120 which claims extra fast speeds and is rated at up to over 40mbps.
An unbeatable feature is, that when signing up for broadband service, one can usually get a free modem (after shipping of $9.95 and a rebate for the $89.00 up front) with the service.
Since I switch service between my brother and myself every 3 months (to get the new customer rate - you are a new customer if you haven't been one for 91 days!), I get a new modem every so often and sell the 'old' one on eBay.

Toshiba and Motorola Cable modems are very good. Stay away from no-name modems.
