He is in the marines, so it makes it harder, since I dont get to see him alot..When he is in Iraq, he tells me how much he wants to be with me, but once he comes back to the states, things change..But I want to be with him and marry him, but he keeps stringing me along..And its so hard, what should I do, how do I attempt to get over him.

I had an ex in the Marines too. It's really hard when you are in love but the fact is.. when they are away they can tell you what you want to hear because they have their own life there and they're seeing plenty of women. I'm sorry to be so honest, but it has to be said. And then when they are here, they realize.. oh.. I don't want this. Time is too short.. and life is too precious. It's time for you to cut him loose. It's the best thing I ever did - I'm married and happier than ever. And that basically means starting over. Change your number .... change your life. Find a local man that you can go out with and have a great time. You'll see how much easier your life will get. I wish you lots of luck!

I'm an ex-Marine and also a psychologist now. I can tell you with confidence that he's likely seeing many other women and he's probably unable to form close attachments so he runs around with a lot of other women. In Iraq, that isn't possible, so your letters made a nice substitute for 'the real thing.' Now that he's back, the conquering hero, women will fawn over him and he loves it. You will definitely get over him if you allow yourself to have a real life of your own. You don't want to marry him, you want to marry what you want him to be.
