I used to have a fairly well paying job. three years ago, I was diagnosed with a VERY serious illness, and it became life threatening at one point. I am better now, but cannot work full time anywhere because I tend to get very fatigued. I just took at job at a Major League sport stadium facility doing seasonal work. The problem? I am going to be operating the VIP elevator and doing a bit of customer service. I have NEVER looked down on any of these jobs before, but now that I will be the one doing it, I feel silly. I am middle aged, HAD a good good job and now I feel like I am "settling" for an entry level position. I am not trying to be snobbish. Like I said, I never thought ill of anyone having this type of job. Why is it bothering me that I have a job like this now? Is the job silly? The good thing? It is 5 minutes from my house!!

I think you should look at it this way. It is possible that your illness could have left you totally incapacitated. Unable to walk and talk. Be thankful for everything you have. Be thankful that you can walk and operate an elevator. Be thankful you are alive. Maybe you will meet famous baseball stars, or influential people that could possibly get you another job. If you are mean and down trodden, they won't notice you, but your employer will and you could loose your job. Five minutes, many people, including my sister travel 1.50 hours to work on the train.
I think you have a lot to be thankful for. When you start your job, smile a lot and tell your "customers" to have a great time watching the game. You may get a lot of smiles and thank you's back. Enjoy the life that God gave you!!!

Think of it as a time to reflect on your previous job and ways to improve. Since you are only doing seasonal work it looks as though an opportunity has opened for more training in other areas both personally & professionally. The position you hold now, I'm sure has lots perks. Just stay relaxed and enjoy the rides. I'm sure you'll walk away with lots of happy memories and will probably return next season.

See it as a transition job. You need a pay, you need a job and you can't work full time. Start with that one, try it for a few weeks and chat with the VIPs (that will stimulate your brain). You can quit anytime can't you?
I suppose you feel you are in a student job and that does not fit with who you are. If you look at it for what it is: a not-for-life-job, maybe you will find it easier.
5 min from your house: hey, that's great.
Make it clear to whom you talk to (yourself, your boss, your "clients", that you are here because you have to, at this point in time, but you aim to move to a different job -be clear what that could be, ask people for their views on it). (oops: do not scare your boss and tell him/her that you want to leave immediately, ok?, be more subtle than that!)

Hi Merlot, the most important thing here is the fact that you're not giving up! Remember who you are & don't worry about the little stuff, I also have disabilities (Depression & Fibromyalgia) so I understand a little of what you're going through.
I returned to College a couple years ago & attend on a part-time basis...it's all I can do, just do your best & that's all you or anyone else should expect of you.
Congratulations & Best Wishes on the new job!

I'm in a similar situation, very similar. All I can really say is that you're doing what needs to be done, just like I am.
You're being responsible, staying active, paying the bills, and maybe one day you can work back up to where you were. Concentrate on the fact that you HAVE done better, and MAY do better again in the future. Set a worthy goal, and work toward it, and never give up on it.

Be happy knowing that you are doing the best you can do at your job. I have been down this route recently having to take a job at a convinience store for a bit after having worked in an office setting for most of my working life. I understand, it can be a humbling experience.

Those are important positions or they wouldn't be there. Someone has to do it. You should thank God for your life and the ability to do that position. Do you have any idea how many people wish that they could do that job that you are crying about? What if you didn't have the ability to talk? or walk? or use your hands? or worse, use your brain? Give blessings, think of those less fortunate.
Feel better?

congratulations on your new job. Once you start your job youre gonna love it and youre gonna feel silly for feeling this way to begin with. Youre gonna be working at a place where your going to meet all kinds of neat people who are going to appreciate what you are doing for them. And just about every job is "entry level", its up to you to keep climbing that "corporate" ladder until you get the position you want. Chin up and good luck to you!!

give it a shot...having a job...after being sick..is financial freedom..a chance to make new friends...new experiences...etc...it's not just abt the work you do...and if you don't really like after giving it a try...you can always look for another..maybe some VIP will like your service and tell you to work in their company?! just maybe..
