How would Democrats have known what was going on inside of private offices of Republican Senators and Representatives?

It was the only Republicans who knew about it and tried to keep it quite.

Foley was co-chairmen of the the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children. The reports state that many of his Repub colleagues knew about the emails, but that the Democrat(s) on this committee were kept in the dark. Not real hard to figure out that protection of the party came above exposing a possible danger to children. Why didn't they want the Democrat to know? Because whether it would have been to protect children or bring down the Repubs the Democrat would have announced it to the world and asked for an investigation.

It was the page himself that blew the whistle on Foley, and ABC News that broke the story on 9/28. It seems you are trying to paint the Democrats in the same color as the Republicans, using information for election purposes. There has been no evidence of that to date. The evidence points to a Republican cover-up, not a Democratic ambush. If they would have waited until the elections were over would that have been more seemly? The time for this to be exposed passed by a long time ago, trying to blame the Democrats for not exposing what the Republicans were clearly hiding is a bit of a stretch don't you think?

BTW, I am also an Independent voter.

First, you dont sound like an "independent" at all! Your question is flawed. The Republican aide to Republican Tom Reynolds informed Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert that Republican Mark Foley was involved in inappropriate conduct with pages. There is no evidence that Democrats knew about this at all until Friday night, when the rest of the world was informed. All the evidence is that this has been a Republican coverup for YEARS! Not only did the Republican leadership allow this to continue, not only did the Republican leadership not discipline their own Republican Congressman, but the Republican leadership allowed him to chair a committe overseeing exploited children. Any and all Republicans who were aware this coverup was going on should resign. That includes House Speaker Hastert, Congressman Reynolds, Majority leader Boener and any others.

I would contest that they truly didn't find out until recently, otherwise they could be held under the same scrutiny that they are putting the Republican leaders under. Who truly should be punished for covering this up as much as Foley should be for committing the act. I'm pretty sure in real life they call it contributing to the endangerment of a child.

From an independant point of view? So that means you're "Fair and Balanced"... um no.

I dunno if democrats knew about it or not. I wouldn't be suprised if they did. But you sound just like hte democrats claiming the lowered gas prices are really a ploy. If so, it's working. I'm happier with lower gas prices. And I'm happy that they caught Foley. Ok? Just is, let it go.

Isn't the question really how long did the Republicans know and try to keep it hidden?

Unless hitting on gay teens is now part of their agenda, in which case it's okey-doke.
