I have a few questions about how IT & Networking works in a Courier Setting

What kind of scanners do they use. (we are looking at PDT's scanners)?
How does the information pass from the barcode to the system?
what technology are they using to connect the bar code to their online systems or software?
Estimated cost for the technology because we are looking at connecting the scanners to the SAP?

Please feed me some info i am looking at a project where i need to know these things

Barcode is no different than keyboard input.
Once you have the data it is just transferred via regular data transfer protocol into the main data base. No magic and straight forward.
