My girlfriend moved into an apartment with her friend, without looking at the lease (yes, i know she is stupid). Now she is worried she is paying the full rent for both occupants, not just her share (half).

The other roomate will not give her the name or phone number of the landlord, as he does not want her to contact the landlord (probably because he is scamming her).

How can i go around this roomate and find the landlord's name myself? Can i call the county office or something? Which office? Would it be possible to look up the deed to the building, and see whose name is listed as the owner? This is public information, right?

Thank you in advance.

Your county assessor will have a record of who the current owner of the building is. They will also have a mailing address on file for this individual (property taxes). All you need to provide is an address.
If you want you can probably access these records online.

Yes, you can look up this information by doing a property search on your county auditors website.
