you cannot set a nil with high cards yet most of my partners play high cards first. this of course cost us a lot of games or at least a lot of points. What can I do about this without cheating. Does someone want to be my partner on Yahoo or on Pogo?

When defending a nil, it's best to start with a suit in which you have several low cards, if you have one. If not, a middle card is a decent start. If you only have one low card in the suit, you seldom want to play it on the first round, as the niller's partner will almost always have a high card to cover that trick. Better to save the low card for the second or third round of the suit.

As for what to do about it, all I can suggest is getting a higher quality partner.
