How difficult is text messaging to do on a cell phone? I want to send someone a pretty long message, and plan to do it by text message on my cell. I've never done this before. I have a basic Sprint phone. The manual to it is... somewhere. I can find where to read text messages, but not type and send them. Also, if there are three letters to each number key, how do you select which letter that you want? Could someone give me the basics? I don't want to mess it up. Thanks.

WAIT - I have another question!!! How many characters can you type before reaching the limit? Will I have to do two separate messages if it's a very long message that I want to type?

Here's how it works on my Mobile (cell) Phone.

Press 'Message' key.

Scroll down (if neccessary) to 'New Message' and press 'select' key.

Hopefully, it will have the headline 'New Message' at the top of the page. You will then have the choice of 'To' and 'Message (Msg)'

Select 'To', using the scroll up/scroll down key, then press the 'change button (it should have the word 'change' on the screen, next to the upper, right hand button). Key in the required number. The word OK should then come up on the screen, next to the upper right hand button. Press that button if you satisfied that you've keyed in the correct number.

The word 'Message (or Msg)' will then come up on the screen. Click on 'Change' and the screen will semi clear; the cursor will then start flashing. You can now key in your message.

For a letter 'A', press the number '2' key once. For a letter 'B', press the number '2' key twice. For the letter 'C', press the number '2' key three times. For the letter 'D', press the number '3' key once, and so forth. For a capital letter, select the correct letter and press the scroll up key. For punctuation, keep pressing the number '1' key until you get piece of punctuation you require.

When you have completed your message and corrected mistakes, press 'OK'. Then press 'Done'.

The phone will then ask 'send message now?' and give you the option of 'yes' or 'no'. Click on 'yes' if you wish to send your message immediately, and your message will be sent.

It can be very difficult to send a lengthy message if you've never did it before, and experience is a great teacher. Really though, get someone to help you send your message, if possible.

UPDATE: When I send a text to someone, one page is usually enough and it costs me 20p (twenty British pennies). If I use more than a full page, it will tell me - before I send the text - that I have used up two pages, therefore, a further 20p.

The longest text that I've ever sent was three pages long. I would guess that the longest text that you can send would be 13 pages, as long as the 'in box' belonging to the person that you are texing is empty. I believe your outbox may have to be empty, also.

It sounds to me that you're biting off more than you can chew, sending a big long text, when you've never actually sent anyone a text before. So once again, I strongly recommend that you get someone who will sit down next to you and help, rather than trying to interprate what us here are trying to tell you.

Best of luck, though.

its easy but could be quiet confusing in the begining. once you know how to do it, it becomes easier.

so lets say if you wanna type Hello....
since the letter 'H' is on the number '4'..and it is the 2nd letter on number '4' key. you press the number '4' key twice. and then you press 'ok' or 'select' which would be by pressing the button at the top at the right hand side.

to type e then, you would press '3' twice. since e is the 2nd letter on the number key '3'

to type 'l' you would press the number key '5' thrice (three times) since the letter 'L' is the third letter on the number key '5'.

make sense?

oh and to get to the text message prompt...you go to settings and then click on messages.

hope that helps......a little of trial and error should help you out. :) since i don't know where in settings is the messanges option. b.c i have a motorolla phone.

Not difficult at all. Just go to Text messaging menu and type using the numerical key pad which doubles as a type writer (ABC=2 DEF=3 and so on) just like you save contacts on the phone now. Put in the phone number to receive the text, once your done hit send and it is on the way!

you could put it on t9 and it will automatically chose a word as you key in the corresponding number or you could just push the number button that many times like for a push 2 once and for b push 2 twice.........
