why should the rich be punished for being successful? i know this question has been asked probably a million times. but it seems dems have this suspicion of wealthy/successful people, and they seem to have an agenda to take their money and accuse them of stealing that money from the poor. why should I pay higher taxes? so that it can go to someone who can work, but is too lazy too? the FairTax gets rid of the federal tax for the poor and doesnt increase prices, so why do dems and lefties want to destroy it, keep the income tax, and actually raise the income tax?

this question is also directed to Jim W. Id like to see what kind of "proof" he has against what I said, or "proof" supporting what he says.

There are actually many different reasons I support the rich paying higher taxes but the one I will outline, the biggest and most obvious reason is that at a certain level of wealth, people no longer "earn" money, our system is one which enables people to get into positions in which money recreates itself...There are literally hundreds of different examples I could provide: business investments, stock and bonds investments, property investments, etc...These institutions provide opportunities to multiply your wealth using smarts and experience but also provide opportunities at certain wealth levels to multiply wealth without having to do anything. THAT is the problem. When the stock market is down they can afford to buy, when the housing market is down they can afford to buy, if they are too dumb to know when to buy or sell, they can buy the guy who knows when to buy or sell. At a certain level you are not doing any foot work, so your success is not really geniune, your successes after this point is the result basically of the buying power of money itself. (Proof that systems like this are true and I am not making this up are concepts like fractional reserve banking for instance but there are many other ways). This is not an opinion but an actual scientific fact of business and economics...So...The geniune successes of the people should not be punished, but the non-geniune successes should go back to the people in my opinion. All people should be able to become rich but not off other peoples labor and not by using quirky little economics and business wealth portals and warp zones. IT DOES NOT MAKE A PERSON A COMMUNIST to recognize this fact of reality.

The rich are not punished through taxes. In fact, taxes are what make being rich so easy. Would you rather hire your own securitly service (police)? Would you rather pay a few medical professionals to keep on hand at all times in case of emergency(ambulance)?

There are countless essential services that are provided for by taxes that benefit the rich as well as everyone else. What if your mansion and luxury cars are swept away by a hurricane? Would you turn down FEMA help just because it was taxes that paid for it?

Why do rich people like to suggest that they deserve everything they get and poor people deserve everyting they don't get?

Taxes are what make the American dream less of a myth. If you are born poor, how can you ever get anywhere if there isn't a way for you to get an education, healthcare and food?

If you are born rich, is it really fair that you never have to do anything? You didn't make that money, you are just welching off your parents.

I know this much, without taxes, (or some sort of wealth re-distribution), we would live like barbarians. The only safe person at the end of the day would be the one who has the biggest gun.

Is this the type of society that rich people want?

Im a liberal ok and I disagree with the taxing system in this country. You are absolutely right, its not fair that wealthier people have to pay more in taxes.Just because they work hard and succeed they are then punished by paying out the *** in taxes.
I dont know what this FairTax is but i will look it up.
A better Idea would be if large corporations paid their fair share of taxes instead of getting away with paying very little, nothing or even getting back a tax refund. Its ridiculous the way companies get away with this. If you really have a problem with paying too much in taxes you need to put the focus on what the problem really is and that is it.If they paid what they should, you wouldnt have to pay as much.

As it is, under Republican control, the rich pay about 90% of ALL taxes in the US. We are at a point that the rich cannot withstand another increase in taxes, or they just might MIGRATE or shut down...this happened in Sweden when those who worked their butts off to make money had it all taken away from them in taxes. IT is time that ALL paid their way in the US, not just the rich. I am NOT rich, but the inequalities of taxation here are just too much! Personally, I wonder, at times, if a national sales tax would not be the most equitable method to tax the whole population ... all of us benefit equally. On the other hand, I would like more say as to how that money is spent. I see a national debt of about 4 TRILLION dollars run up by Republicans...I am NOT in favor of this type of government and ridiculous handling of my present and future money! I cannot even comprehend how much a Trillion dollars is ...Can you?

Because democrats are stupid that way. They think that the small population of rich who pay over 70% of the taxes have another vein that has not been tapped. They think like socialist who believe that no one should succeed, except of course their race of slaves that they are creating with their social programs. The French tried to heavily tax the rich and guess what? The rich left France along with billions in revenue. Not too bright in my book. But then again we are talking about liberals here.

Besides paying your FAIR SHARE, would like to see rich over very high limit pay 75% to prevent concentrations of wealth. That is far less than 99% once paid, and would like to see all increase go into debt reduction.

What democrat said the rich should be punished? If they make money fairly and legally that is their business. But they also consume more in the process of making that money. Why should they get that stuff for free?

They shouldn't. We should implement a flat tax. One tax for everyone and they'll still pay more, yet their paying the same percentage others do.

People with socialist mindsets think they are entitled to what their neighbors have. They are resentful because they could never attain what they really want, so they whine and accuse them of being corrupt because they understand how someone can work hard and be rewarded for it. And, they are LAZY.
