a wireless networ is basically the linking of two or more computers without using wires.
for that, you need a wireless router and you may also need an adapter for your laptop...if it doesn't have one built-in

Internet is not 'wireless': internet is a lot of computers (servers) connected. The way of connecting them is usually a cable, but they can also use radio waves (just like radio or TV) to connect.
What you may see as "wireless internet" is just a wireless connection (similar as a wireless phone) between computers and what we call an ACCESS POINT. The access point is connected with the rest of the net using, mostly, phone cables or optic fiber.

Wireless internet is connecting to the internet without wires keeping your computer tethered or on a leash.
Go talk to someone at a reputable computer store (Best Buy or something like it) and they will walk you thru the steps and sell you what you need for that.
But, do you NEED a wireless connection? One of the drawbacks is that the connection speed is far less than a wired connection. If you don't NEED a wireless, stick with the wired one.

You need a wireless router that will hook into the router you already have for high speed or dsl Internet and then you must have a laptop or pocket PC, that have a wireless network card built into them.

here is a link that explains what wireless means. It basicly means you don't need that blue cable going from your computer to the modem. It works the same was a cell phone or cordless phone works.

you need a wireless adapter.... and the drivers for the adapter.
It works just like a wireless phone (i think)... it connected to a router which contains the internet information... and you connect to it.
