Get lots of ram... at least 1 GB if you want to be up to date at all... (i have 2 GB currently).... get at least 2 GB if you plan on running windows vista when it comes out. I would get a 64 bit processor if possible (because when programs start getting made in 64 bit.... it will run faster!). Read some reviews about the laptop... check how long the battery lasts.... check the weight of it... the size (whatever is good for you).... another important thing to see in the reviews is how hot it gets on your lap! Some laptops.... you can't have them on your lap because they get too hot. lol But personally... im ok with not having it on my lap.... i figure you can always put a book between your lap and the laptop if needed.

Hmmm! Interesting question. First of all. If you really want to use your laptop to keep it on your lap ( its funny but fact ), then dont buy Dell. They have their fans facing down. and it will heat up your lap. But if you are looking for really powerful Dual core which you want to use as a computer, they have real cheap ones. You can carry them anywhere, but you cannot put on your lap as it will heat it up.

Now coming to other options. Sony VIAO is a good one.

if you are looking for multimedia capability then look for video memory available. And aso there are different sound systems that come.

But basic stuff being, RAM 1GB is good. Processor 1.5 G Hz. Screen atleast 15 Inches. Total weight must be about less than 4 pounds. The total thinkness also might matter sometimes for look while u make presentations people dont want to see a big one sitting on there.... Good Luck with your judgement.

You need one that will need to be able to run Windows Vista (I use a 1.6Gigahertz PentiumM, 1GB of RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Combo drive). I would recomend the brands: Acer, Toshiba, Fujitsu. Acer laptops are the cheapest in the three brands I said and are just as reliable as Toshiba and Fujitsu or better (I had an Acer last me 6 years without no replacing parts). Make sure it has Wireless built in and a good sized hard drive (at least 60GB).

If you need any more advice, email me.

I think the most important thing is the keyboard...I find most laptops the keyboard is too small so be sure to try out the keyboard first.
We recently had a Fujitsu in for repair and I really liked the keyboard.
Another thing I liked was the screen it had a beautiful display. This review I found is at NotebookReview.com.
