I shouldn't bother trying the school, the exam board is more likely to have the info on record. However, you might also try the local newspaper - many published results back in those days.

Very difficult as GCSEs only came into existance in 1988. Prior to that it was O-levels and ONLY the Examing Boards might have records that go back that far.
