i have never been able to play the videos. i can play any other site's videos. what could be the problem? should i contact yahoo? and if so, how?

You probably need to update Java. Go to http://www.java.com and see if you have the latest version.
There are tests on line to determine if you can see everything... so you might search for 'video tests', etc. Flash site has some free players: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ .
I download everything I can to play different formats. Sounds for this particular one that it's JAVA for Yahoo. I see Java open for yahoo.
