I've always thought Prof X could use some of that Shi'ar technology to make an infinitesimally thin layer of something over her body so she could actually touch or even kiss someone without absobing their minds/powers. It would give her relief from the torture her isolation causes her.

its not the she cant touch people, she wears gloves for that part.
Its that she cant feel their touch, their skin. She cant feel the kiss, the warmth it puts off, the softness, the wet lips. Thats the problem. Its the intamicy of it.

Just because there are people around you, doesnt mean one can not be lonely.

If you look at the symbolism the characters roles have in the X-men comic book in many ways they mirror emotions in real life. With that said if we were to look at in a realistic sense rogue could die...not of asphyxiation, covering the skin completely does not stop skin from "breathing" that's an urban legend, but of over heating. In order for her to be able to touch and cause no harm to another human she must have no skin contact. The over heating would result from her pores being covered by your so called "infinitesimally thin layer of something" which would not allow the skin to perspire.

Aside from that I think that Rogue would still not get the complete satisfaction of human emotion, which is what I believe she represents, the value of human interaction and what it would be not have it. Hope this helps.

Well if she was to wear a suit like that then how would she use her power to absorption. Plus she was able to touch one person. That person had a lot of power to be able to handle the touch.

It was Gambit that could take the touch.

They've also came up with things that neutralize mutant abilities for various lengths of time.

The reason none of it is used is the same reason they never bothered making altered clones and transfering the brains of the mutants into more human looking bodies for the ones who are the worst off. No angst means no ratings.

DogbertCarrol has it right. If this was such a big deal, why not have Leach in the room next door? Rogue could do whatever she wanted.

But hey, simple answers don't sell storybooks.

What good would a "normal" mutant be. Characters are created so others can relate to them in there own way.

Hey, you might as well ask, why don't Rogue and Gambit use a Full Body Condom...?
