I recently moved into a new apartment that has a gas stove. I have never used one before, and I am just really cautious about using it. Are there any tips for using it that would ensure there are no accidents?

Make ensure before using your gas stove as following:
1.Check all the fittings as cyclinder/inlet pipe to gas stove, ensure fitting is ok.
2. Check burners, switches and all nobs before using each time.
3. Check proper ventilation and air circulation available in your kitchen room,
4. Always switch off main regulator after the use.
5. Use lighter, ignore matchboxes.
6. If you feel any leakage or foul smell open all the windows and doors, do not blow any light, call immediately your supplier's technician.

You're going to enjoy using your gas stove because it has an infinite number of settings that you can use to adjust to the exact heat level that you need for whatever you're cooking. This contrasts with an electric stove that just has a certain preset number of settings.

My stove has a pilot light and when I turn it on, it starts on high heat and makes a ticking noise which goes away when I turn it down slightly. Be sure that all the knobs are turned off when you are finished cooking.

Be aware that there is an additive in the gas so that, should it leak, you will be able to detect the leak from that odor. Ask your landlord to show you how your particular stove operates.

Ignore the first posting above here...it's just a bad joke.

1) Open and air out the oven before lighting it.

2) Make sure the room is well-venilated before lighting either the stove or the oven. Open a window, if possible.

3) Be extra careful to turn off the burners and oven after use. Make it a habit to check you've done so before you go to bed.

4) If the pilot goes out, open all the windows before trying to relight. If you can't relight it, call your landlord immediately.

5) Do NOT try to light a cigarette from an active burner. My eyebrows will never be the same...

Meticulously follow the instructions in the owner's manual . Contemporary gas appliances have safety features which anticipate the common mistakes and hesitances which may be made by an unsophisticated user. There's no substitute for the confidence which you will feel by following the instructions. If you have no owner's manual, print one from the manufacturer's website.
