Are they shady? Selfish? Flaky? Or just plain don't care that they do this? I continue to keep going back for more because the friendship is important but now I don't want to continue putting myself out there. It happened again last weekend & now she wants to make plans for lunch which I know will be blown off. How can I best handle this?

She isn't much of a 'friend'. Quit calling her and say no when she wants to make plans.

This person is no longer a friend - they're an acquaintence and losing ground fast.

If they want to make plans, fine; just don't show and don't call.

If they call you back, apologize for missing the appt. but then blow it off by saying, "well, I guess that evens us out anyways."

If they never call, that means they never showed themselves and are playing you out as a fool.

Find new friends.

She's not really a friend, is she? Unless she's got something major and out of the ordinary that's going on in her life right now, I would consider just easing out of the "friendship." Just tell her that you can't make lunch. Then go on your separate ways. Sometimes friendships just end.

Walk away, its not worth it, it will bother you for only a little while but in the long run you will feel better than constantly being let down.
