Where did the distinctive southern drawl found in the southern states of the US come from? My guess is that lots of Australians emigrated to and populated the southern states and their accent evolved into what is today.

The drawl comes from the British accent. Evolving in isolation, there are slight differences between the South, Australia and New Zealand.

I think it's a mingling of English and Scottish accents. There were many Scots who settled in the Southeastern colonies.

what the hell? do you not know anything about US history, Austrailians didn't "migrate" here! many German, Irish, English, and Scottish migrated to the south, many in very remote areas, so there english became less proper and or mixed with each others accents, country music is actually derived from Scotch/Irish folk music
