I very seriously doubt it. Our lights went off one time, and when they came back on it fried my computer. It was on a surge protector. If just the power coming back on will damage it, the a lightning strike definately will.

When lightning strikes near or directly to your house, it can create a surge that is 1000000+ volts. That will overpower nearly any surge protectors. Your computer can be damaged, even if it's connected to a good surge protector. I have a surge protector that costs $150 for my computer and TV, and a lightning completely destroyed my surge protector. The only surge protectors that can protect against lightning are the ones that costs $1000+, or UPS(uninterruptible power supply). UPS might stop lightning, but it will get extremely damaged itself, so it is like a suicide action.

A lightning strike can overpower almost any surge protectors. I bought a surge protector power strip for $25, which got fried by the lightning that struck my house. The only surge protectors that can potentially protect against lightning are the ones that cost thousands or ten thousands.

I would assume that a good surge protector would protect from lightning strikes... i've never had a lightning strike mess up my comptuer anyway lol the power has gone out... but it was fine.

depends on the surge protecter and where the strike was, but to my knowledge, most house hold surge protectors will not protect from a strike.
(this may be different if somewhere else on the grid there was a lightning strike)

Nothing will protect from a direct hit lightning strike, but then the house will burn anyway. Buy a good one and you are relatively safe from lightning in the general area.

If you are concern, get a UPS (uninterrupted power supply). It is a backup battery device that the pc plugs into. If your electricity should go out, the battery kicks in to allow you to safely save your work and shut down.
