I've just graduated from University with an unrelated degree but have found that I really want to be an actor (film rather than theatre)- what would be the most straighforward route for me to take? I am from the UK.
Thanks!

Jock, there is nothing in my question about finding an easy way in to acting, or wanting a job with no experience. I am quite willing to learn and gain experience.

Go to this link I've answered two months ago. Disregard the part about the Spouse twins, up until college. Your best bet is to find an acting school and get an agent. Start auditioning and listen for casting calls. Start small with extras and walk-on roles. Build your acting career with doing local plays in the area. Not everyone is cut out for it.

First of all, be prepared for a long stint of poverty, disappointment, loss of ego, moments of despair.
The list of people wishing to enter the acting profession is endless. I have many actor friends, from my days in the theatre (I also did many films, both as an extra and walk-on, as well as stand-in).
I suggest you contact a stage school, asking for them to audition you.
Prepare a role from your favourite script (play).
If they like you, then they will inform you what you need to do to proceed to the next stage.

This comes up regularly - wannabes who do not want to learn the craft.
You really think you are going to walk straight into films with no acting skills?
Get real.
And what films?
Threre is no British film industry as such.
I have heard this shite over and over and people like you do not enter our profession.
The usual idiotic answers wil nof follow, from getting an agent (yeah, they're looking for people with no experience) to starting out as an extra.
Contd. ad infinitum

Join local am dram to find out if you really like acting.
Best bet is to apply to drama school, join equity and find yourself a decent agent.
I have a sister who acts and she's always out of work with no money. Stick with a proper job.

if you are kinda desperate, you can check out on websites or something and look or which office you want to be in to act. look out for the auditions going on for actors and take it, so if you pass it you can get jobs from there if you are good enough! my friend wants to be an actor too, and she always give me informations about the auditions and she always send her photo and stuff. GOOD LUCK

Lie to your friends and family. I mean lie outrageously about everything. They will give you closer scrutiny than any director. If you are undetected in claims to be a missionary from West Africa you know you are an actor.
