My son is 7 weeks old and he is eating 5 ounces sometimes 6 and it seems like a lot, but when I went to the doctors they said he isnt gaining enough weight. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to help the problem?

At seven weeks old your baby should take 4-5 ounces every 3-4 hours. Our baby wasn't gaining weight - he was actually losing weight. My ped recommended Enfamil for preemie and underweight babies. We had him on it for 1 week and he gained back a pound. If you decided to take this route, don't keep him on it for long b/c you'll see he'll gain too much weight. About a can is all you'll need. Good Luck

First thing is don't panic. He could go through a growth spurt in a week. The doctor would have, and will inform you of your options if he's really concerned. He will be sure to express his concern to you and tell you what to do. Just keep feeding the baby as you are, he'll let you know when he's hungry and when he's not.

Try giving him the Nestle Good Start or Enfimal GentleEase. Only give your baby a soy formula as a last resort. Talk to your doctor first before doing this.

As long as the baby isn't hungry and isn't losing weight and the doctor didn't suggest a different feeding program, don't worry too much about it. Kids grow at their own rate.
