My 2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS which I have owned since 2001 has over 129,000 miles on it. I have routine maintenance (oil, brakes, belts, tires, etc) done when needed. I have no problem with it so far, other than a couple of computer glitches (one of which was a recall--turn signal problem) which happened around 40,000 miles, and it was fixed on warranty. I recently had the timing belt replaced, and the alternator checks out as good. The mileage is a little less than what it was, but still over 20 miles per gallon. Anybody out there own a Malibu with 200,000+ miles on it? I really like this car, and I hope it lasts a while longer.

Chevy products typically last 100K-150K miles until they start to show serious problems. Most of the components are rated to 150K. You can drive the car for quite some time afterward, but the costs will be consistently higher and parts will become harder to find. As an '01, you're probably going to be ok for a couple more years.

Also, my '99 Chevy 2500 crew cab gets 20+ mpg on the highway. You should be getting more than that. Check your O2 sensor to ensure you're getting proper mixture.

Basically, you take care of any car with all the preventitiive maintance stuff being done. Oiling the body for winter (those of us who have snow and salt on the street all winter) and replacing the wearable parts as needed (alternator, brakes, exhaust, starter and whatever else may wear out) and it should last quite a long time.

If you keep up on the maintenance like it sounds you are doing, it should last you. One thing I would do ASAP is, if you have an automatic tranny, have the transmission filter and fluid changed, and put in some sort of transmission conditioner. Often, the engines in vehicles will go and go, but the transmissions will shoot craps.

there are fairly some less expensive Taurus right here in Maine because of blown transmissions with round a 100k on them. i'm driving a 1988 Chevy superstar with 165k on it and its operating large.identity bypass with a gm product.

GM vehicles, particularly newer ones, are very high quality. One of their plants was rated the best in quality in North America. So I would imagine you have many more miles to go in your Malibu.

If you take care of a car and keep up the maintenance there isn't a reason why it won't last 20 years or more easily.

As long as you maintain a vehicle from brand new does not matter which vehicle it is, It will last for over 200,000miles!!
