If you tell Alltel your phone was stolen, they'll probably tell you to contact your insurance agent, who will want to see the police report. I would tell Alltel what happened, ask if you can upgrade now and just extend your contract for two-years beginning in March but get the new phone now. So it would actually be a 30 month contract starting now instead of a 24 month contract starting in March.
ADD: I forgot, if Alltel won't work with you, try eBay. Lots of people sell their used phones for cheap. Just make sure it's compatible with Alltel, usually a compatibilty check on the eBay page of the phone you're looking at. You can get a cheap one there and then in March upgrade.

If you have insurance on the phone, you can get it replaced no problem. They will probably charge you $30-$50 bucks for the deductable, but it's well worth it if you don't have to buy a new phone that could cost $100s.
Call up your insurance company. If you don't know the number call Alltel, they'll be happy to give it to you.
Tell them that your phone is unuseable. The insurance agent will probably ask you what happened. Don't lie... it's not a big issue! They are used to this happening everyday.
They will probably ask for the deductable amount and then will send you a new phone over night and give you instructions and a pre-paid evelope to send your broken one back to them (You'll have to send it back within 30 days, or they will charge you for it). If they don't have one just like yours... they will give you the upgraded model.
Anyways... don't worry about having to lie or sorts - it won't help you any. This is why you have insurance! :)
Good luck!

Best case is you have insurance through your cell carrier. If so, the thing mysteriously dying is the best thing that could happen to you. Simply call your carrier and they'll give you a replacement after having you talk to a technical support person to confirm the phone is dead. Note, when I did this, they insisted on giving me a refurbished phone identical to my existing phone - this is NOT a good way to get an upgrade. They'll send you a box to send back the dead phone.
If you don't have insurance through the cell carrier, check to see if you're still in warranty. The bar will be higher here, since the warranty doesn't cover dropping the phone, abuse, etc. Probably easiest to bring the phone in to your local store in this case.
If it was stolen - say, out of your car - chances are the value of the phone is less than your deductible so insurance wouldn't do you any good anyway.

Either way you're looking at a long drawn out process to get anything.
I'd just send it in to be fixed, and buy a temporary no-contract virgin phone to use while you are waiting for the company to fix your phone, or send a new one.
Also, if you back over the phone with your car, it might break it so bad they don't try fixing it, and just send a new one. Only do this if you have insurance on the phone.
If all you have is a warranty, just send it in as is and hope the damage is covered under warranty.

You were raised by wolves or chimpanzees, right?
Of course you don't lie. That's like telling the Universe that you don't mind being lied to. Or maybe you don't mind. Maybe you don't mind if companies try to cheat/lie to you. Or boyfriends.
Maybe you should consider treating the world the way you'd like to be treated.

If its under i year, you can say its broken, and the manufacturer will replace it. But if you say its stolen and don;t have insurance, you'll have to buy a new one!
