Well, if there are people saying it's liberals' fault that we buy our oil from the Middle East, they're either lying or clueless.
The majority of our oil imports come from the Western Hemisphere. Canada, Mexico, and Venezuela account for 47% of US oil imports. Total imports from the Middle East account for less than 1/4.
In 2005, the United States imported 13.5 million barrels a day. 2.2 million of those came from the Persian Gulf.
These are all US government statistics.

Whoa! Talk about failing to comprehend.
The reason we have greater dependence upon imported oil is because of impediments thrown into the path of tapping domestic oil reserves and using alternate energy sources or improving our energy infrastructure and capacity. And those impediments are typically caused by... liberal eco-wankers.
Who is blocking drilling in ANWR and off the US Eastern, Western and Southern coasts?
Who is blocking greater use of nuclear energy plants?
Who is blocking new refineries and putting onerous specifications that prevent modest upgrades to existing refineries?
Who is blocking wind-powered generators off the coasts or in the mountains?
This is why our dependence upon foreign energy sources is higher than it should be.
Perpetrating a lie, indeed!

Conservatives have labeled everybody who don't agree with them as a liberal. For some reason, most people who live in the constant state of fear think of themselves as conservatives. They have a tendency to flock together for protection and are mostly followers, not leaders. This is the present problem with the Republican party. They lack any leadership. This is clear by looking at their lack of effective leadership during recent crisis like Katrina, their failure to take care of the Foley problem when it was first revealed to them, and their failure in Iraq.
Virtually anyone not in the flock, who opens their mouths with another point of view, is a liberal to this scared group of people. And of course, anyone with an independent thought is simply just crazy to them.

No, it's the Earth's fault. As that's where the oil is. However, it is the fault of Environmentalists (or liberals) that we can't drill in Alaska and we don't have more refineries. The Republicans are all for both of those things.

I havent even heard anything about that. The only thing I can think of is liberals blocking drilling for oil in places that would take dependency off of middle eastern oil. But thats it.

Why are you surprised that Republicans and Conservatives make up lies and spread them as gospel? This is their modus operandi, then blame liberals when they get caught...hell, they are still blaming Clinton for the morass they have us in...and worse, there are fools who fall for this drivel!

Why do liberals block us from drilling and buying oil from domestic sources? Are they scared of energy indpendence?

It is an accusation based on endangered species that reside in oil fields within our own country. If these animals aren't protected, we can do homeland drilling. If we protect them, then we are SOL.
