Only had it once, use natural yogurt and it hasn't come back since. every woman has a certain level of the thrush bacteria present in the body and hormonal changes can cause an increase, this frequent episodes of thrush may be due to the hormonal changes associated with your menstrual cycle. if you are that concerned and are experiencing it every month contact you GP for further advice.

Could be your age - if you're just getting into your menstrals then it's a case of your body settling down.
If you're slightly older then it's often caused by stress and tiredness:
The yeast bacteria that causes thrush is something that we have all the time and most the time it doesn't cause a problem... however if we become distressed, stressed out or over tired it can affect the body's hormone levels and agitate the bacteria which in turn doubles up it's normal activity and replication rate - hence the problem.
Using Canesten is a good move - as is trying relaxation exercises and/or dealing with the problem that is stressing you. Additionally tight clothing causing a constant warm and humid environment can also exagerate the problem - try wearing looser clothes, looser underwear, no tights and daily showers or baths.

No, it is not normal to get thrush frequently.

Thrush is a yeast infection which is an opportunistic infection. That means as soon as it finds somewhere warm and damp with a low level of bacteria to inhibit its growth the yeast can proliferate and cause a full scale infection. If you are getting it every month this sounds like it is linked to your period. Your period wont make you get thrush, but not changing pads often enough etc. can encourage it to occur.

If you are getting more that two bouts of thrush in six months you need to go and see your doctor, as it may indicate an underlying problem - undiagnosed diabetes is just one example.

Other things you can do to help is to avoid tight fitting underwear and tights (pantyhose), wear cotton underwear, NOT using harsh or perfumed soaps in the genital area, not using highly perfumed bubble baths which can irritate the mucous membranes and make it more likely that infection can take hold.

I've heard that if you're an adult who gets thrush you should get tested for any other potential health related issues (although thrush is fairly harmless and more of an inconvenience than any thing else, it could be a sign that something else is going on). Healthy adults are generally not prone to getting it, it's more common in babies because their immune system is not totally developed. So get a physical from your primary care physician and bring this to their attention.

Use the usual Canesten Capsules and cream, your partner needs to apply the cream twice a day after washingfor at least 3 weeks to prevent reinfection.

If you keep getting it see your doctor and ask for the a 6 month course of the capsules, take 1 a week at a lower dose.

Take a bio yogurt or live yogurt drink every day.

Don't wear thongs they really aggravate things, no soap down below, use aqueous cream from the chemist (about £3 for a huge pot) to wash with.

Hope this helps

You're doing the right thing. but have a look at your diet. Perhaps stop eating too much wheat. Because that's what it is - a yeast infection.

I have just got rid of mine using the cream. They say that it loves pregnancy, so yippee for me!

If it keeps coming back go and see the nurse. It can't be nice for you. A couple of days ago I would wake up just scratching like a hamster - not nice!! lol

Once a month is quite a lot anyway. I would say change your diet and whatever you do DON'T EAT MARMITE!!!!

Thrush is definitely linked to a yeast infection. If your really serious about stopping it then you have to stop yeast altother, which is not as easy as it sounds. Another word for this is candida and if you look on the internet you will find that it is the culprit of lots of illness not just thrush. Good luck

try a yeast free diet if this has no effect then it may be linked to your periods and maybe the type of sanitary products being used, allot of them contain bleach and so can often spark a thrush reaction. also try different types of underwear you could be sensitive that way too. good luck best wishes

I get thrush often too. I mainly get it when I'm on antibiotics--which kills the bacteria but let's the yeast thrive. I don't know about the other answers about taking baths--um, thrush is in your mouth so bathing won't help. I find brushing my tongue with my toothbrush and toothpaste helps to limit it. Now that I have it, my husband and I seem to be passing it back and forth to each other. Seems like it's hard to get rid of.
