If test was done on the first day of when you expected your period, or maybe the day before.

A pregnancy test can definitely give you an incorrect reading if you are testing too early. If you believe that you are pregnant and have other tell-tale signs - wait 3 or 4 days and then test again. Also make sure to keep the tester stick in your urine stream long enough to make certain that there is enough to test accurately.

If the test still shows a negative result you may want to consult a doctor and have a blood test done if you believe you are pregnant. Some women (as myself) do not produce enough of the pregnancy hormone to show itself in a urine sample.

Pregnancy tests work by detecting hcg in your urine. The strength of the pregnancy test has a lot to do with it though. The range is from 20-50hcg (20 being a better test because it will pick up as little as 20 hcg in your urine) Every day that goes by your hcg is supposed to rise if you are pregnant. There are lists online that tell you the strength of certain brands. Generally, the more expensive ones are NOT ALWAYS better. Some people swear by the dollar store brand.

Anyways, it may be to early to tell if you are pregnant. Wait a week (i know tis hard) and try again. Your levels may still be too low for even an "early" test.

it may very well be that the pregnancy is too early to detect, or the sensitivity of the test to hCG... when i was pregnant with my son, i got a negative the first time i tested. a few days later, i tested again and finally got my positive.

If it's the first day of a missed period, it's very possible the test will not read correctly. Read the intructions on the test, it will tell you how soon it should give you accurate results.

Pregnancy tests work by hormone levels. If the hormone levels are not high enough it won't work. Give it a few days and try again.

if you test too early it will give you a negative because the hcg level hasn't been detected, but if you wait a week or two, your test results will be positive if you are indeed pregnant

Yes. Negative results can be wrong (not yet detectable). But Positive tests are only very rarely wrong.

Yes if you take the test to soon it can give you a negative response.

Yes--if you didn't have enough urine, you wouldn't have enough of the pregnancy hormone in your sample. Also, if it's earlier in your pregnancy, you may not have enough hormone in your sampe.
