Would you argue with you spouse about who would get the most beloved pooch or feline?? Has anyone ever thought about this?? Would you bicker about custody of the pet?? What is your fave pets name? Mine is Rachel...an 11 year old dalmation mix.

Oh boy, as silly as this sounds, when my ex and I divorced, we split everything, had joint custody of the kids AND the pets.....we shared the responsibility of health care too, the whole nine yards!
Hey, I house broke our dog, T.A., he was my baby too!
We got alot of flack over this, but that's what we did, and it worked great!

*sigh* When I split with my first husband, I had most of the custody of the dog during the divorce. But when the divorce was finalized, he got the dog. Why? Because the basset was a "gift" by law. I still wonder what happened to my dog that I raised.

Not about the ex-husband.

I have thought about this as well as our pets are like our kids! I think we would have to have shared custody, which sounds crazy but we both love them so much. Another reason not to break up I guess!!

My fiance and I have 2 adorable kittens, Mr. Poppins & Rosaleigh, brother and sister. I would not be able to bear losing them and I know he wouldn't either. So I would probable suggest that we have joint custody depending on how far away we lived from each other.

i always find the animal chooses who is its particular owner,,prefers one person over another so it would seem fair for the pet to stay with the one it actually sees as its owner,,my hubby,s dogs name is flo,,jack russel ***** but she is 'my ' dog and if a split were to happen i hope he would allow me the pleasure of keeping her,,i also have a very mardy cat named adder,,black as night and twice as dark, two rats called domino and dexter and a python called phil,,SHE is lovely and no the rats are not food lol

This is the reason why we don't break up (lol). We can't be separated from Oliver. But recently we also got a dog, and they don't get along, so perhaps we have to break up and keep each one animal(lol). Of course we will switch every month or so.!

Yes, Yes and YES!
Been there done it! My friends have too. If the spouse likes the pet, it can get nasty, just like kids.
FYI,
Have all information of who takes care of the pet, ex: take to vet, walks, feeding, clean-up and when they get sick (caring)

Tell this to your attorney if it gets nasty - It worked for me :)

I have a retired racing greyhound and I will fight for him if it every happens again.

Good luck
