The younger you are the more you think you know. As you get older and more mature you realize how much you didn't know.

The song is about when he was younger he thought he knew all the answers, you think you're wise, a know it all, and that you have nothing new to learn. Everything is defined. But when you grow older you learn that you were wrong, that there is so much more to learn, that you can't know all the answers. As result you know that you have to take life is it comes. Like a weight is lifted off your shoulder.

As a younger individual, he was sure he had the answers to what was best for him, his friends, his country, and the world. As he aged, he realized how naive he was back then. He now realizes just how much is unknown. Just as a newborn, innocent and naive, not knowing much about anything, so as he aged, he became "younger" than he was back then.
