I think you parents are wrong. You can go anywhere to get your car fixed for new brake pads. You can go to an automotive repair shop, and shop around to an automotive repair shop (All they do is fix cars {even a gas station that has an auto repair shop} and service cars, such as oil changes) If you go to an automotive repair shop, it may be a lot cheaper then what the dealership wants. I don't know where you live, but prices do vary. Auto repair mechanics have all the certifications to work on cars that need brake pads. I go to a mechanic who always works on my car if something is needed, and he is very reasonable with his prices. I known him since I was about 10.. I recommend that you take your car to someone you know well; therefore you don't have to worry about getting ripped off. Tell your parents it is your car, and you are going to take it to who you are most comfortable with.

Actually, your parents are worried that if you get someone else
to service or repair your car, you may be 'short-changed' and
pay good money for the sub-standard work done. They are just
being careful and wise about it. That's why they insisted on the
dealership to service your car.
However, you can explain to them nicely that it's quite a simple
job to change the front brake pads which are already worn out. Any good mechanic can do it correctly. The cost is much
cheaper too.
I'm sure they'll understand your explanation. Good luck!

Owning a car can be expensive no matter how you handle the servicing. If you can learn to do the job yourself you can save A LOT of money! However if nobody can help you with that, ask your parents about Midas. I have always had good luck with them. MIGHT be less than dealer.

I agree with Pauly.

HOWEVER, it is better to keep on going to the dealer if the car is still under warranty. Otherwise, the dealer might argue that it was not done correctly and might refuse to honor the warranty on other pieces that would need repairs.

ask that they pay the difference... I do my brakes at home for about 30 bucks for the pads. Front pads are soooo easy to change.

My first question is how old are you? If you are paying for it go shopping to see if you can get it any cheaper. If your parents are paying go to the dealer.

If you're paying for it, why does it matter what your parents want, it's you that is paying and you that is driving it... Drive around, stop in and ask people, use they phone, or do they not allow you access to it?
