You can teach here without a degree, but it's unlikely you'll get a work permit (and hence be legal) unless you have either a degree or suitable experience. The Thai government is becoming more selective when it comes to issuing a work permit so you need to be able to demonstrate you can make a real difference, and are not just looking for a cheap place to live.

You do not need teaching credentials, to speak /understand Thai, nor a degree to teach English in Thailand. If you wish to work in Bangkok, or in one of the private International Schools where the pay is the highest a degree is important. I taught English to Thai Students in Northeastern Thailand and was never asked for any documents or certification of my ability to teach English. It was fun, by Thai standards the income was very good. The Thai lady that ran the school was the primary English teacher, but a native English speaker is what they seek.

Usually, a TESOL certificate is enough to teach English in a language institute but I'm not sure about state schools.
