We'd like their nutty governments to not develop nuclear weapons. This is because NK's Kim Jong Il and Iran's Islamic theocratic regime have been very bellicose and have threatened others with attack.
These are not just America's goals. These same goals are shared by the EU, the UN and many other countries. That is why the EU-3 (Germany, France, England(?)) have been in negotiation with Iran for 3 years. That is why Madeline Albright danced and dined with the NK Troll himself.
Shows how effective non-threatening negotiations are with these power-mad people is, eh? Iran has continued their efforts despite all these negotiation. NK has continued their development despite Clinton building him a nuke power plant and giving his people food & medicine.
Sadly, the spirit of Neville Chamberlain and the Munich Accords lives.

World domination and retention of the exclusivity of the "nuclear" club.
Actually, it's the attempt to prevent "nuclear proliferation." The theory is that the more countries that are nuclear, the more chance there is that some idiot will actually USE one (or more).
We didn't want India to get one, nor did we want Pakistan to get one. The only thing that makes it acceptable that these two countries have one is that their chief rival also has one. (Pakistan vs India - currently discovering the joy of Mutually Assured Destruction).
The fear about North Korea is that it is an unstable government who might "lash out" in the event they felt their fall from power was imminent.
The fear about Iran is that they're political leadership sees a Nuclear Holocaust scenario as acceptable if it ushers in the return of the "hidden Prophet."

US wants that only US and Israel should have WMD's, a.k.a Nuclear Weapons.
That said, NO nuclear enrichment for IRAN (even if its for energy purposes), and big NO to North Korea, because that guy is crazy up there.
WAR in the near future, if republicans come to power again in 2008 elections.

If you're talking "America", then you're talking about the people. Our goal is peace. If you're talking about the current administration, I'm voting it out ASAP!
