My personal favorite is that the creator of the world left this planet behind to go out and create other galaxies, but in his absence, the sun did not set and the rain did not fall and all life on this planet almost died. Finally a peacock volunterred to fly out to find the creator, and all other creatures ridiculed her because this would require flying directly into the sun, and no other creature was willing to try it, let alone a vain and beautiful peacock. However she was very serious, and flew into the face of the sun, burning all the feathers off her head, charring her wings, she almost died, but when she emerged on the other side, she found herself at the feet of the creator who healed her and went back to earth to see what had happened. When he learned of her heroic flight to save every creature he had made, he blessed her, making her akin to a goddess, and gave her power over water, rivers, rain, and made her the queen of all birds, especially those who had mocked her

I love all the stories associated with the lwa in Vodou. I also love the tales of Anansi the spider. Me and my children can not get enough of them.
