I dont think they would take over the world because humans are the most devious animal of the lot and we wouldnt want to lose our place at the top of the food chain.

Lets just hope cockroaches never get opposable thumbs though ;)

They don't need 'opposable' thumbs (and they don't need language either). They have something more powerful. Patience. They will simply wait until all the humans kill each other and then take over.

growing opposable thumbs wouldnt make them any smarter.
they'd probably be able to climb trees though.
which would be just as unsettling as having them take over the world.
if not more.
