In the dashboard of your 1990 Dodge Caravan, the oil pressure
gauge has a 'H' and 'L' reading which means that when the oil
pressure is high, the indicator points to 'H' and vice versa for
low oil pressure.
Ideally, the indicator should point at the centre of 'H' and 'L'
which is normal oil pressure.

H or high pressure could be a dirty or clogged oil filter restricting flow, or if the oil is the wrong viscosity (thickness) or is way too dirty.

L or low pressure could be a lower than normal oil viscosity or not enough oil in the pan for the oil pump to flow.

I hope the others are right, because I get the impression these gauges don't work very well or don't last long. Years ago, cars had non-digital clocks and few worked for very long.

It will be either one or the other. If L, it means the pressure is too low, and if H, it means it is too high. It should be in the middle once the engine has warmed up.
