In other words, vote in the Dems in 2006 to punish the GOP for its gross misdeeds, get the GOP straightened out during the next two years, and then vote the NEW GOP back into office in 2008 to repair the damage the Dems did during 07-08 and otherwise get the nation moving in a better direction than it is now and have been.

Is this viable?

Sadly, I can see this happening. Nothing is going to be fixed in the next 2 years so if the Dem's magically win this election, a Rep. is a shoe in for 2008. Would rather have a Rep. Congress and a Dem President than an all Rep. Government since they have proven to us that that is not what is best for this country.

Your question is flawed in 3 ways.

1. You make the assumption that only republicans are acceptable candidates.
2. You make the assumption that if the GOP looses seats in congress and governor races, republicans will somehow magically change.
3. You have lost sight of people and are using herd politics. Each candidate is an individual and not a member of some hive like political party.

FYI, I have no attachements to any party,

Vote on individual voting records. Only some Republicans should be punished, and some Democrats should, as well.

Me, I consider myself a Republican, but voted for Feinstein in prior elections (I'm basically moderate, and she's pretty sensible). This year I am 'switching' my vote to the Republican candidate, though he is more conservative on social issues than I am. Her vote on the Senate immigration bill was irresponsible for a Senator from California, in my opinion.

So it matters what the candidate has done in the last year.

Why would we vote the GOP back in in 2008 to restart the destruction they've caused the last 12 years? Thats just crazy.

If you vote democratic this year, the next 2 years will be nothing but investigations, inaction and political chaos. meanwhile, terrorists everywhere will be dancing in the streets.

just what is wrong with the "direction" the nation is going in that can be fixed by anything the democrats propose? All they are is ANTI -- Anti Bush, Anti Wal-Mart, Anti Rumsfeld, Anti Foley, Anti Hastert...The only thing they do admit supporting is surrender in Iraq.

It's going to take more than two years too rid ourselves of the radical right wingers. A lot more.
