I don't know about NYC, but call the Clerk of Courts. They should know how long you have to wait after filing the final decree before you can remarry. As for how long for the divorce itself to be final: Look at your paperwork... did an attorney represent either of you? If so, call the attorney on the papers and ask when to expect the final decree of divorce to be signed by the judge (he should have a date scheduled on his calendar to see the judge) and filed with the clerk (usually within 2 days of the signing of the original document). If not, you could call the appropriate judge's office (there should be some delineation as to what judge will sign off... a division or something..) and ask the secretary for an estimate... just try to be polite..

Well i don't know in NYC, might call the court clerks office, if there is a stipulation in your state that you have to wait a certain length of time then that should be in your divorce decree. (in kansas where I live it is 30 days from the date of the divorce).
Now if you have just signed the papers and have not yet gone in front of a judge, then you have to wait till then, for your marriage to be legal in the state of new york. You might be able to get married in a different state, and claim that you aren't currently married... but that might have legal ramifications later down the line.
Your fiance should be able to wait a bit though for your court date i mean your engaged, and commited he isn't going to leave just because of that right?
When in doubt, talk to an attorney.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

The one year waiting period is only necessary when dealing with a written separation agreement which is the basis upon which one is suing for divorce. If one is suing for divorce based on other grounds, there is no one your waiting time. However, if one chooses to litigate the divorce rather than mediate, the process will inevitably take much time because every issue becomes an issue to be presented to the court, argued and decided by the judge, which becomes very costly and very time-consuming, not to mention the aggravation and psychological trauma involved. I strongly suggest you consider mediating you divorce you may need help of lawyer to run your divorce expeditiously through busy court system.

wow slow down lady....what is the rush? The divorce will be over soon. Relax and breathe. Life isn't about marriage and skipping this guy to that guy. Take time for yourself. Men are not everything in life.

try about a year. You signed the papers now all the work starts. If he fights it you could go on for over a year.

MAYBE YOU SHOULD DO A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE SUBJECT OF MARRIAGE, BEFORE YOU GO JUMPING INTO A RELATIONSHIP THAT WILL PROBABLY END IN DIVORCE ALSO.
