They are responsible for liability, which is usually included in the liability insurance for their farms and equipment. There are both Amish insurance agents and non-Amish agents that work with Amish customers. Amish belive in traditional ways, not that modern ways are evil. They do follow the laws of the area they live in (those plastic orange triangles on the back of their buggies testify to that), so they are responsible in obtaining the required insurance.
I found a website saying that liability insurance for a horse and buggy is about $92 per year.

I have never known a cart and horse to need insurance as a law. It would not hurt for the purpose of replacing it if an accident were to happen and it be covered on the insurance.

I would imagine they would have to at least have liability insurance. In Ohio, the law requires them to put those orange trianges on the back of their buggies, so I could see them requiring some sort of insurance.

No, they are not governed by the same rules that we are. They are not even required to file or pay taxes and yet some drive cars. Here in Ohio, you will see them driving white cars, trucks, and even vans everywhere...yet they are not held to the same rules we are. Kinda makes you want to act Amish...yet some of there, "rules" in their community I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy...if you know what I mean.

Its the finance companies that require us to carry insurance on our houses and cars. Since Amish don't use such modern ideas, they don't carry insurance.

Probably- because they drive in public and interact with other drivers on the road as they go shopping etc. If they solely drove on their own properties, it probably would be a moot point.

no they don't but they do have to have the orange reflective triangle, similar to what tractors have. I live in upstate NY and see them all the time.
