Look up your System's standards of learning first.
Choose a topic based on what the children NEED to know
That will be the most impressive
Be simple, a little talk, hands on activity and a short oral review.
Making something is always nice but can turn out to be a disaster the first time. I am a school principal this is what I look for.My first time I made a SMURF cake and tried to do a smurf event....disaster....the kids never watched the smurfs and their was cake everywhere. All else fails go to discovery.com hit homework and find a lesson there. GOOD LUCK Smile and listen you will be fine!

Have a lot of visual aids, that will be good for 7-8 years old...Try to study a story about girls the same age, an adventure story. When u plan ur objectives, always bear in mind that 7-8 y/o girls are fond of make-believe, so u can also use them while you teach. more power

Teach them how to do an acrostics poem. Halloween is coming up really soon so they can make a kewl pumpkin, ghost, somthing halloween. kids love to do those. or have them do it out of their name. It will be easy to teach and it is somthing they learn around that age.

Alright here's a winner: Amelia Bedilia!! It's a series of books that emphesizes language and puns and they're pretty darn funny. Little girls LOVE THEM (boys too) I just hope I spelled it right. All grown ups love her too.

I have 3 grandchildren that age and wanted to connect.this summer get some books on American Indian artifacts and rocks and minerals. samples are readily available inexpensively. kids love Indians and rock picking in a field. it will give them a hobby also, there is so much to learn and its fun. we have a tremendous collection now. use clay to make your own version of arrowheads and spears or beads. your library can guide you for places to look for stuff. rocks are everywhere they will learn to identify them. and FOSSILS...are so interesting.

You can make them be interested in anything at that age. Capture their enthusiasm for life and direct it in to any topic.
Use an area YOU are really enthusiastic about and it will be contagious!
