The GOP is a shack that a high wind will blow over with one gust. The Dems see and know this. The ONLY thing they have come up with is "Lie To The Voters And Pretend You Are A Centralist" (Just like Bubba did!!)
Some strategy, huh? Lie to Win? Same-old, same-old and the American Public doesn't want to buy it all the way. Expecting to win elections by lying and gathering up protest votes against the GOP IS NOT a winning strategy in the best interests of the ENTIRE nation but just the Dem Party, alone.
WHY DOES OUR NATION HAVE TO SUFFER because neither party wants to be an AMERICAN FIRST and only a Dem or Repub SECOND?
Isn't the real issue ETHICS amd PATRIOTISM instead of POLITICAL POWER ??
Isn't THAT the problem that the voters see and aren't getting addressed?

I agree that it's a huge problem that we only have two viable parties in this country. It's inevitable that they each drive the other to extremes, and there's no such thing as "integrity." Anybody who accepts the platform of either party at face value is simply a fool.
That said, since we only have the choice between two evils at this point, it's my personal opinion that the Dems are almost always the lesser of evils. I don't vote a straight party ticket, and I'm registered as an Independent, but I can't think of a single Republican right now whose actual stated policies I agree with, let alone his real agenda which we as voters rarely hear about. The GOP under Bush has proven itself a power-drunken regime of radicals bent on chipping away at our Constitutional rights in the name of protecting us against a terrorism that their own war of choice has actually encouraged. It can only be a good thing that Dems are about to take the House and Senate and provide at least a theoretical counterpoint to these obviously self-destructive policies.

You are SO right! We do suffer because of rampant partisanship. Politicians on both sides of the aisle would rape 5-year-olds on national television if they thought it would get them a few votes. Keeping their jobs is what they most care about. If we happen to benefit, that's OK, but what's best for the country doesn't seem to be their main objective.
If the Democrats cannot get back control of both houses, given the absolute shambles the Republican party is in right now, they do not deserve to win.
They say people get the government they deserve. I don't think we deserve this--but, these jerks are all there because they got a majority of the votes (well, in MOST cases, that's what happened....) And now the rest of us are stuck with them.

To quote Thomas Paine: Patriotism is the last refuge for scoundrels. In this country too many politicians hide behind their American flag lapel pins and their rhetoric about values and patriotism. They should be talking substantively about how to address issues affecting Americans, but don't because being authentic may not get them re-elected. Mark Foley is just the latest example of a politician who hid behind the "mantle" of being a highly respected congressman, all the while acting out his pedophile fantasies via e-mail with teen age pages...

The 'DEMS' have proven for years that you really don't have to know anything, but know somebody that does! As for the GOP being hollow... in some instances they are,but those folks will 1) get caught, 2) leave the party platform right after the swearing in !!
