They've got Jack locked up in a cell underneath an old aquarium. So why did they put Sawyer and Kate in outside cages?

I don't know the answer to your question, but, maybe they are keeping Jack seperated because he is more of the leader than Sawyer and Kate. Jack knows he is under water in an aquarium. His lady guard told him there used to be sharks and dolphins there. Sawyer is being kept in an old bear cage. I guess Kate's cage also belonged to bears at one time. Is it not amazing that there used to be a whole zoo there on the island? Remember Sawyers guy guard said it only took the bears two hours to get that fish biscuit....and how did the lady guard know all about Jack?? She said to him....It's not who we used to be...it's who we are now. WHO ARE THEY??? I am sorry that I took your question and turned it into even more questions...

I think this is the producer's way of saying that Kate will pick Sawyer over Jack. But now Jack has Juliet to savor.
And if what Henry/Ben said is true, Kate might not be in that cage for long.

Maybe the Others are going to mate them. The island has killed off their reproductive organs, hence why they tried to steal Claire and Aaron. So now they're gonna start mating the caged humans.
Seriously though, I have no freakin' idea! And why didn't they show the rest of the cast?!

you do realize that you're talking about Lost right? You never know why they are doing something until they want you to know. There are plenty of people who say "they" have got it figured out, but they are only kidding themselves. This show goes with the saying "it ain't over til the fat lady sings" And so far, she's not singing !!!!
