I pretty sure people won't know all the brands in India so the best thing is to is to go to an electronics store and ask the employees. Go to other electronic stores, compare prices and decide. Sony is good, Panasonic is also good.

There are a lot of factors involved. For example, if you're going to use it on a standard TV, a standard DVD player will work fine. But if you're going to use it on a High-Definition TV, you should spend the extra money on a progressive scan DVD player. Also, some people like multi-DVD players, but you can only watch one at a time and the mult-DVD players have a habit of going bad quickly, so a DVD player that plays one disc at a time is usually your best bet. As for brand names, I have had VERY GOOD luck with Sony audio and video components (good sound quality, good picture quality, easy to use, last for a long time), but I have had a lot of problems with JVC audio and video components. So I'd say get a Sony and avoid JVC.

I've had my GE dvd player for 5 yrs now, and it survived my grandkids......must be a great brand.
